Datto’s integrated cloud is also a big selling point. But, the cost for cloud and on prem storage starts to hurt. There is a downside to only one restore chain (in the event it gets damaged in anyway).įor recovery, for failover, I’ll prefer Veeam all day everyday. That hurts.ĭatto takes one chain and can do all things on that chain including deviations in the chain (rescue agents) Which is very nice.

Now you need to have two full copies of your data. Unless you do backup copies to extend your chains. Hope you don’t need hourly backups, cuz you don’t get much. Support tells you that they don’t like to see chains longer than about 30 RP. Veeam has shortfallings where space and longevity are concerned. Datto is extremely limited as far as networking is concerned and actual recovery flexibility. I’d argue that they both have their place. Snipboard.io/A97Qmc.jpg - 40 days since last backup Snipboard.io/RQfquE.jpg - 4 hours since last backup I wish datto was less expensive so I put them out to all my clients, even the cheap ones. I don't want to see how good my E&O insurance is. How do you design software that when having a communication problem just displays the last thing that was displayed instead of an error. The liability to MSPs if the server was to fail is HUGE. Reboots on older servers are a bit scary anyway, without any backups are petrifying.
#Carbonite endpoint not working how to
I am well aware how to care for servers, and I can't reboot it because I haven't had a backup in 40 f-ing days. First, awesome advice cowboy, been doing this over 20 years, my first certification was either windows 2000 server or my A+ (when dos was one of the tests). I will say that again, the server hasn't backed up in 40 days.įinally after speaking with a not so knowledgeable support person, he explains to me that servers needed to be rebooted from time to time and a reboot should resolve this. When I log in I see an error on the server and investigate. That afternoon I realized I was running low on space so I went to go increase it in the convoluted partner portal they have. I checked one of my servers for a larger client of ours (since Carbonite can't send a status report of all my accounts automatically like every other data backup company does) and Carbonite is reporting backed up 4 hours ago. Long story short, I was a Mozy partner and although they had their flaws, their software worked. In all my years in IT I have never seen worse software or more incompetent support staff.
