Similarly, a Dragonfire weapon can give 50% more fire damage while a Dragonfrost weapon can give 50% more ice damage. For example, a Ranger Vest can improve roll distance by 20% while Knight Armour can improve defence by 10%. To make the gameplay more immersive, passive skills can still be attributed to equipment. If there is a concern that players will skip certain chests or quests because they do not desire the equipment rewards, some stats collectibles can be attached to make these chests or quests more enticing. There is no issue of equipment being ignored since strategists can optimise their stats regardless of the equipment rewarded. Equipment that is obtained earlier in the game would not be irrelevant since players can easily change fashion depending on their mood. This also elevates the chore of upgrading equipment individually and the redundancy of duplicates. This way, players can design the look of their characters without worrying that their stats are affected. Instead, stats are earned from separate collectibles that can be infused with the character. To mitigate this dilemma, a possible approach is to remove stats from equipment like costumes and weapons. The same problem exists in Cat Quest where an intended fashion is tough to maintain since earlier equipment is discarded in favour of newer equipment because of the increase in stats. One example of this is in Final Fantasy 7 Remake where players are conflicted to swap out the Buster Sword for other swords with better stats since the Buster Sword is an iconic pairing with Cloud Strife. However, with more games allowing players to aesthetically change the costumes and weapons of characters, it becomes increasingly frustrating to maintain the best look for a character while optimising the best stats since often times the choice of fashion will not yield the desired stats. There is a joy in its simplicity that makes it stand out from the other beefy RPGs. Personally, the games remind me of the Knights of Pen & Paper where common RPG tropes are condensed to their core essence. Having played Cat Quest 1 and 2, I enjoyed my time with the series.
